Omega-3 Eggs

When it comes to versatile family friendly foods that will tempt even the fussy eater, it's hard to go past Farm Pride Eggs.   All eggs are a good source of vitamin A, B12, E, Folate, Iron and Iodine just to name a few.  Making eggs a small package with BIG BENEFITS!

But now Golden Eggs and Farm Pride Eggs pack an even bigger nutritional punch because our eggs have the added benefits of Omega-3 DHA.   Every serve of Golden Egg Omega 3 or Farm Pride Omega-3 eggs (one serve equals 2 eggs) is a good source of Omega-3.

What is Omega-3?

Omega-3 fatty acids is the name given to a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids which consist of ALA, DHA and EPA members.   They are essential nutrients required by our bodies at all stages of our lives.  However unlike other vitamins and minerals, our bodies cannot produce Omega-3, therefore it is important to include foods enriched with Omega-3 as part of your families diet!

The 3 main types of Omega-3 are ALA, EPA and DHA.  So which type of Omega-3 is most beneficial?

ALA Omega-3 (or short chain Omega 3) are found in foods such as canola oil, linseed and walnuts.  This Omega-3 needs to be converted by the body into long chain Omega 3 such as EPA and DHA.   Studies have shown that this conversion is very inefficient so it is desirable to include long chain Omega-3s in the diet as well. These are found in oily fish, other fish and seafood and to a lesser extent in meats and eggs, that is UNTIL NOW!

Tradionally, fish such as salmon and tuna provided sufficent Omega-3, however due to our change in diets, most Australians now consume less then a quarter of the optimal recommended intake.*  This is where Farm Pride Omega-3 Eggs can make a real difference.

OUR OMEGA-3 EGGS HAVE MORE THAN TWICE THE LEVEL OF
OMEGA-3 DHA THEN REGULAR EGGS.

Did you know?

Omega-3 DHA is a major building block of the cells in the brain and retina so it is crucial for brain growth and visual development
Long chain Omega-3 DHA is important for the signalling processes in the brain and nervous system.
The long chain Omega-3s DHA and EPA form hormone-like substances which help reduce inflammation, increase flexibility of blood vessels and help blood flow.
The long chain Omega-3s DHA and EPA help reduce the risk of a heart attack Scientific research continues to identify important roles for long chain Omega-3s, including the role of DPA another type of long chain Omega-3. *

How much do you need?

To prevent a deficiency of long chain Omega-3s health authorities recommend 90mg/day for women and 160mg/day for men.*

However, to optimise diets for lowering chronic disease risk a much higher amount is recommended:

•  For women 430mg per day
•  For men 610mg per day

For some health conditions (such as arthritis and high blood triglyceride levels) doctors recommend higher intakes and fish oil supplements are required. *

How much do I have now?

Most people have very little long chain Omega-3s in their diet because it is found in so few foods - in fact, most Australians consume less than a quarter of the optimal recommended intake. Those who regularly consume fish and seafood (at least twice a week) and who choose food varieties enriched with long chain Omega-3s may reach their target intake.*

Enjoying 2 Farm Pride Omega-3 Eggs as part of your daily diet intake equals almost half the optimal required levels.

How do you get Omega-3 into the eggs?

Farm Pride Omega-3 eggs are laid by chickens that enjoy a balanced diet of natural grains enriched with Omega-3.

We feed our hens life's DHA, a vegetarian source of omega-3 DHA derived from a marine algal source, presenting an alternative to marine fish oils.

life's DHA is a natural, sustainable source of omega-3, made from microalgae that is free of the allergens and contaminants associated with fish. While fish is recognized as the major food source of omega-3 DHA,  life'sDHA offers a trusted non-fish form of DHA.  Fish are good sources of DHA because of the DHA-rich microalgae in their food chain; life'sDHA is derived from microalgae using a sustainable source that does not deplete ocean resources.

life’sDHA is not genetically modified and it offers a natural alternative that is free of oceanic contaminants.  life’sDHA  is suitable for vegetarians and is both Kosher and Halal.

So now as well as being tasty and convenient, Farm Pride Omega 3 Eggs are now even better for you!  For more information of the benefits if Omega-3 in your families diet please
